چکیده
Mol Cell Biochem 2004, 265, (12), 19-26. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of various berry extracts, with and without clarithromycin on Helicobacter pylori. Resistance to clarithromycin by H. pylori has been reported, leading to interest in alternatives/adjuncts to therapy with clarithromycin. H. pylori American type culture collection (ATCC) strain 49503 was grown, cell suspensions were made in PBS and diluted 10-fold. One hundred microL of the suspension was then incubated for 18 h with extracts of raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, elderberry, blueberry, bilberry, and OptiBerry, a blend of the six berries, at 0.25-1% concentrations. Serially diluted cell suspensions were exposed for 1 h to clarithromycin at 15 microg/ml. Ten microl of bacterial samples from the 10(-7) dilution tube were plated and incubated for 18 h and the number of colonies were counted. Growth of H. pylori was confirmed by the CLO test. All berry extracts significantly (p < 0.05) inhibited H. pylori, compared with controls, and also increased susceptibility of H. pylori to clarithromycin, with OptiBerry demonstrating maximal effects.

متن کاملAntibiotic resistance of Helicobacter pyloria through gastric biopsy in Imam Khomini hospital, Kermanshah, 2002
Introduction: Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with a wide range of digestive diseases and is very prevalent in developing countries, although few data exist on the susceptibility of helicobacter pylori to antimicrobial agents. The aim of this study was to determine the susceptibility patterns in helicobacter pylori strains isolated from patients in Kermanshah to twelve antimicrobial...
متن کاملDetection of A2142C, A2142G, and A2143G Mutations in 23s rRNA Gene Conferring Resistance to Clarithromycin among Helicobacter pylori Isolates in Kerman, Iran
Background: Clarithromycin resistance in Helicbacter pylori has been found to be associated with point mutations in 23s rRNA gene leads to reduced affinity of the antibiotic to its ribosomal target or changing the site of methylation. The aim of this study was to determine the most important point mutations in 23s rRNA gene in H. pylori that are closely related to clarith-romycin resistance amo...

Abstract Background: Resistance of Helicobacter pylori to different antibiotics leads to recurrent infection which is an important risk factor for peptic ulcer disease and gastric cancer. This study was done to determine the effect of cinnamon on eradication of Helicobacter pylori. Materials and Method: After taking biopsies from patients with dyspepsia, 60 patients infected with the Helicobact...
متن کاملResistance Rates to Various Antimicrobial Agents of Helicobacter pylori Isolates in Eastern Turkey
The aim of this study was to determine the resistance rates of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) to various antimicrobial agents. The agar disk diffusion method (Kirby Bauer) was used to determine the sensitivity of H. pylori isolates to various antimicrobials. Of the 61 H. pylori isolatestested, no isolates was resistant to amoxycillin and tetracycline. The resistance rates were 42.6% for metron...
